Where: Stone Werks at the Quarry Market
When: Thursday, November 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Come and join your fellow Young Democrats and some of our newly-elected Democratic office holders for a night of celebration!

Democrats took the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate, and hold a majority of Governorships. We won 5 seats in the Texas House. There were many local victories as well. In fact there are too many to list.

Special thanks to all you YD’s that helped out during this election cycle:

Monica Lopez, Alicia Scobey, Lawrence Rangel, Dennis Bente, Brenda Wilson, Lydia, J.R. and Savian, Christina Buenrostro, Juan R. Gonzalez and soon-to-be Mrs. Gonzalez, Ricardo Corona, Violeta Garza, Ernest and Cassandra Pena, Nicole Pena, Elisha Rigsby, Kathy Castro, and Sergio. I’m sure I missed some names but if you helped at any SAYD event, thank you.

Also, special thanks to Eddie “Mynor” Rodriguez for bringing in newly-minted elected State Representative Juan Garcia to San Antonio . This may well be the first time SAYD served as a host for a candidate and we are glad he won.

Juan Garcia sends his thanks to SAYD and TYD (Texas Young Democrats), who block-walked for him before the quarterly executive committee meeting. It was hot and humid that day in Corpus Christi , but it was worth it.

Thank you to all the volunteers, the block-walkers, the phone bankers, and to the young campaign managers, field directors, and interns at the different campaigns.

Special congratulations to Young Democrats Roger Garza and Clifton Walker. Their great candidate Joe Farias (a roughly $300,000 campaign) beat Republican George Antuna’s $800,000 negative, James Leininger-funded TV ad campaign.

Thank you, Jade Chang for stepping up to being our Treasurer, and Michael Wright, our former treasurer, for making our blog intellectually-stimulating.

I also want to thank Marisela Baez and the Our Lady of the Lake Democrats for their support. Thank you UTSA and Trinity College Democrats for maintaining strong chapters. We are working on getting chapters stated at St. Mary’s University, the University of the Incarnate Word, the Alamo Community Colleges , and high schools throughout San Antonio .

Now we have former Congressman Ciro Rodriguez battling the infamous Henry Bonilla in a run-off. Once that election is done, we will regroup, reorganize and gear up for City Council elections.
