Now that the election cycle is almost over with the exception of the December run off election of Ciro Rodriguez still standing tall against his Republican challenger, postings on the blog will slow down, but not stop.
This posting is #381 and counting. Looking back at the election, as Democrats we can be proud of our candidates who took on the awesome task of challenging established Republican incumbents and taking back four district judge benches, one County Court bench, keeping a State Rep. position and a State Senate seat in the Democratic column.
We suffered no incumbent losses, yet elected seven new Democratic faces to reckon with in years to come. Our task at hand is not over. We now must all focus on the Ciro Rodrigez race to make it complete.
Although all our candidates did not win every race, we take heart in knowing that the caliber and quality of those candidates we did field for the campaign was stellar. Remember it took two political campaigns for Judge-Elect Larry Noll to become a judge.
It also took our now re-elected Judge Barbara Hanson Nellermoe two times as well to get to the bench. They didn't give up after one try and thank God they didn't. We have their experience and knowledge to set the example for what a judge should be.
If all our candidates gave up after one try, we wouldn't have Commissioners Tommy Adkisson or Chico Rodriguez. I certainly wouldn't be a Balcones Heights Councilman. I have been voted off twice!! Next cycle I plan to be on the ballot for a JP slot.
We look forward to seeing some of our recently defeated candidates back on the ballot next time. There is no shame in losing an election. President Abe Lincoln made a political career out of it.
We thank the efforts of John Courage, Albert Uresti, Lukin Gilliland, Augie Beltran, Adrian De Leon, David Van Os, Eddie De La Garza, Richard Garcia, Lauro Bustamante, Dan Pozza, Ina Castillo, Barbie Scharf-Zeldes, Milton Fagin, Eddie Bravanec, Tim Ybarra and Larry Stallings for representing the Bexar County Democratic Party.
Having said that, let us unite one more time behind Ciro Rodriguez this cycle and make it a complete victory. Read the blog as more winners of this cycle are sending in their thank you notes to the voters of Bexar County.
