Ciro addresses Dec. 12th election date

Statement by Ciro D. Rodriguez on December 12th Election Date.

"The Republican Governor Rick Perry and the Republican Secretary of State Roger Williams did a disservice to the voters of 23rd Congressional District today by setting the run-off election for December 12th.

This is yet another coordinated Republican scheme to manipulate the electoral process in order to limit voter participation.

This will not deter nor distract me. I will continue to highlight Henry Bonilla's record of failures on issues that matter to the voters of this District. Voters should know that Henry Bonilla failed to support our troops when he voted against a $1,500 bonus to those currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan .

Voters should also know that Henry Bonilla failed to support our veterans when he voted to slash billions from their healthcare, and that when it came to providing affordable prescription drug coverage to our nation's seniors, Henry Bonilla sided with the drug companies who have given him over $260,000 in campaign contributions.

The people of Congressional District 23 are ready for a new direction and I am asking for their support on Tuesday, December 12th."

Waiting until the last minute to announce the setting of the special runoff election election for the 23d Congressional District race to Dec. 12 was just one more example of the disservice Texans can expect from four more years of Rick Perry. I believe that Henry Bonilla was already informed by the governor about the setting of the exact date for the runoff long before the official announcement so that he could take advantage of the extra time to revise his campaign propaganda in advance to reflect the runoff date. Just another unethical Republican dirty trick!

Has there ever been an election in a Democratic leaning district where the choice is so clear and yet the race is so close?
