Black Madonna & Transformations around the World

Lecture and Book Signing: The Black Madonna and her Transformations around the World Tuesday, December 11th, 6:30 pm Auditorium. Free.

The Black Madonna explores the iconography and function of the Black Madonna in Poland, Mexico and the American Southwest, Brazil, and Cuba. In these four geographic settings, the Black Madonna has become a symbol of national identity, resistance against oppression, and female empowerment.

Malgorzata Oleszkiewicz-Peralba is Associate Professor of Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies at the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures of the University of Texas at San Antonio.
