Former councilwomen to fast to raise money for Food Pantry

L-R: former Councilwomen Elena Guajardo, Patti Radle

My former collegue on the City Council, Councilwoman Elena Guajardo is helping us out to raise funds for the Emergency Food Pantry we have at Inner City Development which is the grassroots agency where my husband Rod & I have been volunteer directors for about 37 years.

She is one of the 20 people we are asking to begin a fast until they raise at least $1,000 for the pantry. The fast begins at a press conference on November 2, at our ICD at 1300 Chihuahua at 10 a.m.

The $20,000 helps us to keep the shelves stocked with the basics throughout the year. The idea is that hunger is not a Thanksgiving issue, it's an issue 365 days a year. So, we are asking people to donate now, while people are thinking of the hungry, so that their generosity can be effective throughout the year.

So far 12 people have committed to begin their fast on Nov. 2 if they do not have their $1,000 raised. Inner City Development welcomes all donations and we need 8 more fasters.
