Zogby Poll: Bell holds in second place.

AUSTIN—Chris Bell is holding strong in second place for the second month in a row according to the September Zogby International tracking poll for the Wall Street Journal.

Rick Perry dropped 4.1% to 30.7% followed by Democrat Chris Bell at 25.3% (up 2.2% since August) and Kinky Friedman at 22.4% with Carole Strayhorn coming in last at 11.1%.

According to the poll analysis, “Incumbent Rick Perry faces stiff competition for re-election.”

“The base is coming home. All we need to beat Rick Perry is 35%, and the with Rick Perry dropping and Chris Bell holding strong, the Democratic base is getting excited about taking back the Governor’s Mansion,” said Bell campaign spokesperson Heather Guntert.

“It is particularly interesting that Perry’s numbers are dropping even while his ads are running statewide,” said Guntert. The poll has a margin of error of +/-3.1%.

Encouraging news for our candidate Chris Bell! If only TSTA would withdraw its support for Republican Strayhorn and endorse Bell! Teachers deserve better!

I'm afraid we're going to start seeing some nasty campaign rhetoric against the Democratic nominee for governor, Chris Bell, coming from the Republicans, Perry and Strayhorn. as Bell's numbers rise in the polls.
