11 Women to be honored by La Prensa @ Omni, 4-12
April 12th @ the Omni Hotel at the Colonnade, 11 women will be honored for their leadership and vigorous education advocacy. As diverse as the industries they work in, from business to nonprofit to finance, all the Gala’s honorees exemplify the Foundation’s motto, “building tomorrow’s future,” through their work and commitment to consistently share their talents and success to improve life in our community.
The semi-annual Gala is the major fund-raising activity of the Foundation and also serves to spotlight our community’s hardworking movers and shakers who represent the best of San Antonio.

Since its inception in 1995, La Prensa Foundation has provided more than $2.2 million to help fund college educations for San Antonio residents. Through endowments at many local colleges and universities including the Alamo Colleges and direct scholarships to students attending college full time, the nonprofit organization truly funds dreams.
While the Foundation favors those candidates confronted with financial hardships or extenuating circumstances, they welcome applicants from all over San Antonio with the desire and motivation to pursue their dreams of a higher education.
“We are always looking for applicants who earnestly seek an education and show promise,” Foundation Director Patricia Saenz explained. “Applicants should be residents of San Antonio, who will attend college full-time -- and the scholarship is open to all San Antonio residents. Our goal is to help needy students achieve their educational dreams by channeling the funds received from our sponsors toward their tuition.”
The Foundation started in 1995 on a shoe-string budget thanks to the vision of Amelia J. Duran, eager to implement La Prensa de San Antonio’s philosophy of “people helping people.” She hoped to establish a way to provide students, who might otherwise not have the financial means, the opportunity to pursue their dreams of attaining a higher education.
Thanks to the help of corporate and individual contributions and those who attend the gala, 16 years later the Foundation continues to help fund those dreams to build a better tomorrow.
The Foundation’s Diamond Gala will celebrate 11 women for their significant contributions and their work toward “building a better tomorrow” in San Antonio.
And the winners (in alphabetical order) are …
Chrissy Anthony, Carri Baker Wells, Delia Bara, Lana Duke, Gina Galaviz, Linda Hardberger, D’Ann Harper, Norma Martinez Lozano, Maria Cristina Rodriguez, Whitney Solcher, Gloria Tostado.
