, the 2011 San Antonio Neighbor of the Year and District Director for former District 117 Rep. David Leibowitz, announced today that she is endorsing Ken Mireles for the Democratic nomination in the 117th House District.

“I am supporting Ken because he has always been an active participant in our community and because of his commitment to education,” said Mrs. Kane.

Mrs. Kane has lived in the 117th District for 35 years. In that time, her service to the community has been unrivaled. In October the Neighborhood Resource Center awarded, and Mayor Julian Castro presented, Mrs. Kane the San Antonio Neighbor of the Year Award for leadership in and commitment to the community. In 1996, Mrs. Kane was presented the Community Builder Award by the Valley Hi Masonic Lodge. She has founded two neighborhood associations, Volunteers Organized in Community Effort and People Active in Community Effort, that sponsor public safety and beautification programs.

In addition to her impressive community involvement, Mrs. Kane has been a dependable public servant. For thirteen years, she was a key aide to San Antonio City Councilman Robert Thompson. For six years, Mrs. Kane served as District Director for State Representative David Leibowitz.

Mrs. Kane joins Councilman Rey Saldana, Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Sylvia Romo, and State Democratic Executive Committee Member Marcus Cardenas, in strongly supporting Ken’s candidacy for the Texas House of Representatives, District 117.
