The Salvation Army to Receive First Drop in Ubiquitous Red Kettle
Valero’s $25,000 Donation to Jump-Start Season of Giving
The Salvation Army’s shiny red kettles and cheery bell ringers are a timeless Christmas tradition. But the current economic slump means fewer dollars dropped in those kettles. That’s why Valero Energy wants to to set the example and motivate others by making the first drop – a $25,000 donation. It inevitably will jump-start the ubiquitous Red Kettle Christmas Campaign. And more than 50 children under the age of 5 will be on hand to drop the contributions they’ve collected into the kettle.

During these tough economic times, the number of families in San Antonio struggling to make ends met is increasing. In order to help meet this need, The Salvation Army counts on the spirit of giving from the beloved San Antonio community. When San Antonians put money in The Salvation Army kettle, they can expect change: change in helping those less fortunate in our city, change in making a difference in the lives of people in crisis, and change in the quality of life of so many people – just as The Salvation Army has done for the past 121 years.
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination since 1865. Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.
