El Rey Feo crown

He is the “Man Who Would Be King” and he doesn’t care about the heat, especially when there are local children who need money for College.

Rey Feo candidate Bill Drain is hosting a fund raising golf tournament on August 31st for the benefit of the Rey Feo Scholarship Inc. Fund. The golf tournament is being held at the Silverhorn Golf Course located at 1100 West Bitters. The “Florida Scramble” event is popularly priced at $150 a person, or $600 for a foursome.

The Rey Feo scholarship Inc is a 501C3 non-profit, non-political organization. It has raised over $3 million for scholarships given to over 3,000 students with 100 students presently receiving $1,500 per year for books & tuition.

“El Rey Feo's principal function is to raise funds for the Rey Feo Scholarship Inc.” says Rey Feo candidate Bill Drain. “With the current economy and the sacrifices we are all making to deal with it, it has never been more important to raise money to help our future generation obtain the education they need in order to lead us into a better time.”

Each year two prominent businessmen compete for this prestigious title of Rey Feo. The candidate raising the most money during the months of May - October is declared next year's Rey Feo at the crowning event of La Reina de La Feria de Las Flores the King’s Queen, with the runner-up serving as the crown designate for the following year.

Bill Drain is a native San Antonian, who continues to live in what he calls the best city on earth, San Antonio Texas, with his wife Tina and their son’s Justin and Jared.

In 1985 Bill left the corporate sales world and began a new career in the entertainment business as a professional concert promoter. Having little or no experience in this field, he knew that his sales background would be of some help and he became a quick study. In 1987 Mr. Dennis O’Malley, sought out Bill to bring Jay Leno to town for a show to benefit the San Antonio Parks Foundation.

Bill produced several shows from the Stock show and rodeo to several Sunken Gardens Theatre concerts. Through the years Bill has worked with several nonprofit organizations helping them raise funds through live entertainment. He has worked with every type of music from Country to Tejano and Rock to Jazz.
