Wreaths are placed at the statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. despite cold weather and rain

The 2007 Martin Luther King, Jr. wreath laying ceremony at the Plaza @ the statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. at the corner of N. New Braunfels Ave. & E. Houston Street was held Sunday, January 14th.

Rev. Ronson Hall, True Light Christian Church, served as the Master of Ceremonies , while Bishop S.E. Iglehart, Pastor of the Childress Memorial Church of God in Christ, offered the invocation.

Chairperson Mary Dennis welcomed the rain soaked crowd before SSgt. USAF Roy Norwood from Grant Community AME Church sang the national anthem.

The Negro National Anthem followed, sung by Kevin Evans from Mt. Zion First Baptist Church. The program continued with a solo from Elizabeth Stanfield Holmes from the Greater Corinth Baptist Church and words of encouragement from Rev. Johnnie Troy, Pastor of Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church.

The presentation of wreaths were announced by Patsy Newborn, Jean Dancy and James Turner, followed by the Benediction by Rev. Cheryl Thompson, Mt. Zion First Baptist Church.
