Encourages Innovation and Education for Continued Success

Gov. Rick Perry applauded the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GDGCC) for its involvement in bolstering economic vitality for Hispanic businesses in the Dallas/Forth Worth area.

"The members of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce play an important role in keeping the engine of Texas’ economy turning," said Gov. Perry. "Our success stems from our embodiment of a state enriched by a diversity of thought and a blended heritage, which forms one unique culture. And for all that is said about our diversity, we are one Texas and one people, as surely as our state flag bears one star."

Forbes Magazine recently named Dallas and Fort Worth as two of its "top 20 best cities for jobs in 2008." Last year, the magazine ranked Texas in the top five "best states to do business." The governor attributed these distinctions to Texas’ favorable regulatory environment, strong trade relationships, and educated work force. He also emphasized the importance of the Texas Enterprise Fund, the deal-closing fund which encourages businesses to expand or relocate to the state. The fund is on track to generate more than 51,500 new jobs and $15.5 billion in capital investment in the state since its creation.

In the past four years, Texas has added more than one million net new jobs. Nearly one-fourth of the top 100 fastest-growing Hispanic companies in the United States are in Texas. There are 240,000 Hispanic-owned businesses statewide that generate more than $39.5 billion in sales annually.

The GDHCC was formed in 1939 to develop, promote and protect Hispanic businesses in the greater Dallas area. The chamber supports the advancement, education and economic growth of the Hispanic business community by serving as a business resource, a forum and advocate for Hispanic business issues and community. The organization also awards more than a quarter million dollars in educational scholarships through its Stars on the Rise program.
