Message from District 7 Councilman Cris Medina
After a brief July recess, City
Council got back to work and we really hit the ground running!
We revised the taxi, limo, and horse-drawn carriage ordinance to bring San Antonio inline with other large cities around the country by extending the life of taxi cabs from 5 to 8 years and creating basic safety standards for working horses.
Last Thursday was a big day for District 7. City Council passed funding for our long-awaited District 7 Senior Center. These centers are as vital to the recreation, health, and quality of life to our seniors as our parks and schools are for our children. Special thanks to City Manager Sheryl Sculley and her staff for working with us the past 3 years to make this dream a reality.
This past weekend was "tax-free" weekend in Texas and people all over Texas saved an estimated $79 million on back to school clothing and school supplies. In the coming weeks, we will host our 3rd Annual District 7 Backpack & School Supply Giveaway. The flyer is attached below and I hope you will join us.
Finally, there are two opportunities this week for you to learn and provide input for the city's FY 2014 budget. Tomorrow at 2pm in the "B" session room at City Hall we are having a budget session to discuss two very important segments of our budget: Police & Fire Fighters. This Wednesday (Aug. 14th) at 6 p.m., the annual District 7 community budget meeting will be held at St. Paul's Community Center. A short video will be presented by the city manager's office that will highlight the main points of next year's budget.
