State Senator Carlos I. Uresti is pleased to announce a new private partnership as a solution for the thousands of San Antonians who cannot afford health insurance. The partnership of Primary Healthcare Specialists, a company Uresti co-founded in 2004, San Antonio-based Wellmed Clinics, and San Antonio Pediatrics will provide affordable health care services to the residents of Bexar County beginning this month.

The program costs $59 per month and covers all lab and x-ray costs for up to five visits per month. For an additional $35 per month, a spouse can be added. Also, for $40 per month, children under 16 who do not qualify for CHIP can receive up to three pediatric visits per month. However, unlike the emergency room process, patients will experience no wait time as physician appointments are scheduled in advance.

The program is being offered at various Southside H-E-B stores, including the H-E-B Plus located at Zarzamora and SW Military Drive. The program is available to everyone and patients may also visit www.phstexas.com for additional information.

"With the cost of medical care increasing each year, it is vital to provide low-cost, quality care options to the public," said Uresti. "This unique healthcare program is licensed by the State of Texas , and is a model for the nation."
