21st Annual Asian Festival set for February 9th UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures hosts Year of the Rat celebration

Event: The Asian Festival at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures began as a small reunion for local Asian groups held around the time of the Lunar New Year. It has become an opportunity for San Antonio's Asian community to celebrate together and educate the community about the cultures and traditions from the Middle East to the Pacific Rim.

In addition to the wide variety of foods – Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Pakistani, Filipino and Polynesian to name a few – the festival offers performances including martial arts and dance demonstrations. Other activities include Ikebana floral arrangement seminars, Asian games like Mah-jongg and vendors of Asian crafts, jewelry, clothing and more.

Individuals born in the Year of the Rat (1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, and 2008) are known for their charm. They have big ambitions and work hard to achieve their dreams. Rats are known to be thrifty and tend to be perfectionists.
