Thank you for joining our campaign’s e-mail list and allowing us to keep in touch. I hope that you like what you have seen so far. We have been working tirelessly to win this district back for conservatives and I know many of you have too.

September is going to begin a flurry of activity for us that will persist through the fall. In addition to the fundraising drive that we are engaged in through the end of September we are going to begin our block walking, we need help making phone calls for various events and we need help stuffing letters. 2 out of the 3 things we need help with can be done from home so hopefully there is something here that you can help with. Please let us know if you would like to be a part of TEAM QUICO.

We are going to be having a lot of fun with this new initiative and that includes showing our appreciation to TEAM QUICO members. For every dollar you contribute (or help us raise), for every coffee you help with or for every hour you volunteer we will keep track of your efforts and show our appreciation with things like free dinners with Quico, t-shirts, steering committee membership and other forms of recognition. We know that you volunteer because you want to help us to a conservative victory (and not for t-shirts) but it is just our way of recognizing your efforts and saying thanks.

SA Symphony Musicians Informational Picketing

Musicians Picket at the Majestic Theater to Make Their Voices Heard

All this week, San Antonio Symphony musicians can be found with picket signs that say "Support the Symphony Musicians" and "Stand With the Musicians" in front of the Majestic Theater. The musicians are not on strike, but they are exercising their right to freedom of speech to get their message out to the public. This is informational picketing only and no one should cease work or deliveries.

Informational picketing will occur at the following times:

Wednesday Aug 29 - 1 pm.-3 p.m.
Thursday Aug 30 - 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Friday Aug 31 - 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

There are 4 days left until the labor agreement between the American Federation of Musicians and the San Antonio Symphony Society covering the Symphony's professional musicians expires on August 31. The Musicians must have a new agreement in order to continue working after the contract expires. The Musicians have offered fair and reasonable new contract terms to the Society, but the Society stubbornly continues in its refusal to agree.

Musicians Volunteered Services to Raise Funds to Support the Food Bank's Fight Against Hunger in South Texas

Thursday, August 30th at 10:30 a.m. the San Antonio Symphony Player's Association will officially present the San Antonio Food Bank with all of the proceeds from SASPA's first community benefit concert. The benefit concert was performed on Saturday, August 25th, at Travis Park United Methodist Church and featured the musicians of SASPA with San Antonio Symphony Music Director Larry Rachleff. All participants donated their time and talents to present this benefit concert.

SASPA Chair Brian Petkovich states "It was inspirational to share great music with the community while helping to alleviate hunger in San Antonio."

Many partners came together to make this event possible, such as the American Federation of Musicians Local 23, the affiliates of the San Antonio AFL-CIO, the AFL-CIO Community Services Program, the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 76.

The benefit concert raised $2510 in ticket sales and donations, all of which will be presented to the San Antonio Food Bank at their headquarters. Because every $1 donated to the Food Bank equals $13 worth of nutritious food, this gift will become more than $32,000 worth of food for those in need in San Antonio. The Food Bank's headquarters are located at 5200 Old Highway 90 West. The San Antonio Food Bank can be reached at (210)-337-3663.

The Latino Breakfast Club is a Virtual Networking Organization. There are no membership dues, bureaucracy, committee assignments, organizational duties, or fees to pay. We are a grassroots alternative to the historic downtown chambers of commerce.

Message from Councilman Justin Rodriguez

Dear Friends,
As many of you know, we held a town hall meeting last month to seek your input on budget priorities for fiscal year 2008. It was an initial step in what I hope will be a multi-faceted, citizen-driven process.

The next step takes place this week at our District 7 Budget Hearing which is scheduled for Thursday, August 30. Please click on the link above for more details. I am confident you will find that the proposed budget reflects many of your suggestions, and my hope is that it addresses some of the priorities raised at our first public input meeting.

Some of the highlights of the proposed budget include:
▪ 50 additional police officers to be directed toward neighborhood patrol units
▪ an additional $9 million to accelerate street and drainage projects
▪ implementation of traffic signal synchronization technology along Bandera Rd.
▪ continued investment in alley maintenance and restoration
▪ significant additional resources for graffiti abatement and youth services
