Today is "Teacher Appriciation Day" honoring all teachers, 5-7

Did you know elected officials were also teachers?

A few of local officials taught in public school before their election to higher office.

1. Councilman John Courage taught at Jefferson High School
2. Commissioner Paul Elizondo taught Band  for at least 15 years @ Burbank HS
3. Retired Judge Barbara Nellermoe, (taught 13 yrs.-History) 

4. 4th Court of Appeals Judge Marilyn Barnard (taught 7 yrs.-English)
5. 73rd & 150 District Court Judge Renee Yanta  (taught with Judge Barnard @ McArthur HS-English)
6. Judge Helen Petry Stowe taught a couple of years
7. Judge Scott Roberts taught one year in Middle School
8. Bexar County Clerk Gerry Rickhoff,  Middle School (Sp. Ed.) with former Judge 
Steve Walker (retired teacher) (English-Sp. Ed.-Speech)
Rickhoff & Walker taught @ Southwest Middle School together (87)
9. Walker also taught Judge Edmundo Zaragosa's daughter, State Senator Carlos Uresti's son & State Rep. Joe Farias' son in Harlandale ISD when State Rep. Joe Farias served on the Board
10. Former Judge Steve Walker also taught County Judge Walden Shelton @ Kruger Middle School 46 years ago & followed him to Roosevelt High School & also knew former Judge Susan Skinner as a student @ Roosevelt and taught @ Fox Tech when Judge Catherine Torres Stahl was a sophomore.

There are many Elementary, Middle School & High School teachers to thank in San Antonio to include my wife Linda who taught 23 years. She taught Special Ed. a number of those years as I did.
