COPS/Metro will Rally to Get Out the Vote, hold Runoff Candidates Accountable
Monday, May 22nd @ 7 p.m. leaders of COPS/Metro Alliance, a diverse coalition of churches, schools, and unions, will hold a Get Out the Vote Rally with San Antonio Mayoral and City Council Candidates in the Runoff Election at the Dominion Church of God in Christ, 3023 Martin Luther King Drive on the city’s East side. All the candidates in the June 10th runoff election have been invited. This is anticipated to be the largest runoff election season event in the city.
Leaders will make commitments to mobilize thousands of voters in support of the COPS/Metro agenda of issues, which includes affordable housing, job training, living wages and the protection of immigrant families. Candidates will be asked to briefly share their plans for implementing this agenda during their first 100 days in office.
“We’re a non-partisan organization and do not endorse candidates” clarified Maria Tijerina of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish and co-chair of COPS/Metro, “but our leaders will start calling voters the day after this rally to tell them where the candidates stand with respect to our agenda – our agenda of issues is our candidate and we will vote to support it. We want the community to know that this election is about housing, wages, jobs and other things that matter to us.”
