Sierra Club guest speaker: Malcolm Beck @ the Witte, 11-18

This is an updated notice of our next Sierra Club meeting because there was something of a last-minute change in speaker and I wanted you to know that we now have the good fortune of having Malcolm Beck come to address us. Beck, the father of organic gardening in South Texas is known nationally and perhaps beyond for his insights into the world of organic gardening.
A pioneer, Beck began espousing organics four or more decades ago, when it just wasn't popular to do so in Texas. He was spurned, he was laughed at - until he turned out to be right. Beck, who founded Gardenville, will address our Tuesday, November 18th, meeting at the Witte Museum, 3801 Broadway, beginning at 6:40 p.m.
He will educate us on how to create healthier soil for vegetable gardening. Healthy soil does more than give us good veggies - It helps conserve water, prevent erosion, and reduce CO2 emissions. Many are not aware that the best time to garden in south Texas is the winter. Summer tends to be too hot for a lot of vegetables.
A list of good winter vegetables to plant in our area will be available. Please join us for this free presentation. Admission to the Witte is also free on Tuesdays.
