Walker Report honors Veterans on this Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day when we honor our fallen heroes and those who have served with pride and distinction while in harm's way protecting this country.

As a veteran who is proud to have served for thirty years in the Army Reserve to include active duty in Viet Nam and Desert Storm, I say to my fellow veterans, "well done."

Earlier today I was blessed to cover the Edgewood ISD ceremonies honoring the 53 Edgewood graduates who lost their lives defending freedom for our country during Viet Nam and all those other heroes from other wars who did not make it back. It was a somber but uplifting experience.

From the inspirational words offered by Retired Army Lt. Genral Ricardo Sanchez to the active duty Marine Gunney Sergeant whose voice cracked many times as he addressed his alma mater, it was a fitting ceremony as daughters and sons, young granddaughters and young grandsons lined up in procession to lay flags in memory of lost loved ones who died in the effort to keep our country safe from aggression, tyranny and terrorism.

Covering Memorial day or Veterans Day for the Walker Report is a committment and a labor of love not to be dismissed.

To those who wear or wore the uniform, we salute you and thank you for your service.
