Official Candidate for Congressional District 23

(San Antonio) (August 14th) - Former Congressman Ciro D. Rodriguez officially announced his candidacy for Congress in the 23rd Congressional District at his campaign office at 246 W. Harding, San Antonio.

Rodriguez told reporters, that having a bevy of Democrats in the race could hurt efforts to unseat 14-year incumbent Henry Bonilla.

Standing on the porch of his Southside headquarters he told his supporters that the District was "winnable."

"I think Bonilla has lost touch, if he was ever in touch," Rodriguez told the enthusiastic crowd.

"I plan to take this campaign from one end of the district to the other, and visit and meet with as many people as possible over the next few weeks. Almost everyone in the district has seen Mr. Bonilla's love fest with the disgraced Tom DeLay, even after DeLay's indictment and subsequent court battle to jump off the ballot,"he added.

"Everyone that I have spoken with has told me that 'Enough is enough'." The United States Supreme Court mandated changes to the 23rd Congressional District resulting in a district that is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans."

The new district includes the heavily Democratic Southside of San Antonio where Mr. Rodriguez has spent most of the last 30 years in office, from school board to state legislature to Congress, and where Mr. Rodriguez's home is located.
