State Rep. Rick Noriega to speak in SA, May 9th @ Drop Zone


U.S. Senate Candidate Rick Noriega (photo) To Speak On Military Issues In San Antonio, Friday, May 9th, at The Drop Zone

U.S. Senate candidate state Rep. Rick Noriega will discuss how the San Antonio area is affected by the war in Iraq and current GI Bill legislation currently before the U.S. Congress on Friday May 9th at 9 a.m. at the Drop Zone, near the Brooks Army Medical Center.

Noriega, a five-term member of the Texas House of Representatives, is a 27-year veteran of the military and currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard.

He served in Afghanistan in 2004 and 2005, training Afghan fighting forces.Noriega also served as the Laredo Sector Commander for “Operation Jumpstart”, the National Guard’s border security campaign, and also served with the National Guard in Afghanistan.

He was also chosen to serve as the incident commander of the Hurricane Katrina refugee support operations at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center, coordinating relief efforts in the wake of the devastating natural disaster.

Noriega, (D-Houston), won the March Democratic primary election for U.S. Senate without a runoff with 1,108,318 votes. He faces Sen. John Cornyn in the November general election. A graduate of the University of Houston and Harvard University, Noriega is a member of the Defense Affairs and State and Federal Relations Committee of the Texas House of Representatives.

A father of two sons, Noriega is married to At-Large Houston City Council Member Melissa Noriega.
