Please check your schedules and see if you can attend the next Free Speech Coalition meeting set for Tuesday night @ 6:30 p.m. @ the Esperanza Center on San pedro across from the VIA Headquarters.
Please tell your friends and family! The recent ordinance passed by City Council requires "First Amendment Activity" organizers to pay all costs above $3,000 for police, traffic barriers, and clean-up for marches in the public streets.
In the past, marches have cost an average of $3,000 to $20,000 or more. Such high costs bar most of our communities from using the public streets to exercise their freedom of speech. In addition, the ordinance grants exemptions from these fees to some groups and not others, violating our right to equal access under the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
