Creating Jobs and Protecting the Economy...

During his 16 years in public office, San Antonio and Bexar County experienced unprecedented growth and prosperity. According to some estimates, 31,619 new jobs were created in Bexar County between 1997 and 2007. Commissioner Lyle Larson (photo) is proud to say that the aggressive economic development policies he helped implement created these high-paying jobs. Just a few of the companies that have chosen to locate or expand in San Antonio and Bexar county are: Toyota, AT&T, Boeing, Washington Mutual and Microsoft.

Meanwhile, the military employs 100,000 people in Bexar County and has a $11.1 billion economic impact. As co-chairman of the San Antonio Military Transformation Task Force, Commissioner Lyle Larson led the effort in 2005 to protect our the county's largest employer.

An Economic Stimulus Plan...
Candidate Lyle Larson's position on the current economic environment is a follows:

"The best thing we can do in Washington is to reduce spending and cut taxes to increase citizen discretionary income. The fact that Washington can magically find 150 billion dollars overnight, when our economy is in a tailspin, tells us that there is still a lot of room to reduce federal spending and offer permanent tax relief to all of us.

Basic economic theory stresses the nature of business cycles in an 'open market' system and the downturn in the real estate and financial markets has been predicted for the last year. We do not need to over react by creating a jobs program like some of the presidential candidates are touting. Rather, we should simply give money back to the individual citizens to spend as they choose. One percent of GNP seems like a pretty good start at doing that."
