Community questions why VIA appointees may vote against public transportation

Citizens and community organizations are making a hard, final push to target swing votes on the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) board before its meeting today at 1:30 p.m. at the VIA Center at San Pedro & Evergreen.

The MPO board is considering a vote today where VIA transit may endorse toll roads, even though road building slush funds run contrary to the mission of VIA, which is mass transit.
Also, the battle against toll roads gained allies from the inner-city who will demand that their elected representatives stop carrying water for big road construction companies.

Eastside residents from Councilmember and MPO Chair Sheila McNeil’s district (Dist. 2) are expected to speak in opposition to the toll roads. A bus for those interested in attending the MPO meeting to oppose toll roads will be leaving from the Claude Black Community Center (2805 E. Commerce) at 12 noon.

See McNeil’s comments on YouTube:
