Texas House Speaker files for re-election in Austin

(Austin) - Speaker Tom Craddick (photo with wife, Nadine) (R - Midland), announced that he has filed the necessary paperwork to run in the March 4, 2008 Republican primary for state representative of House District 82.

"It is a tremendous honor to serve the voters of District 82, and to work every day to create jobs and opportunity for the people of the Permian Basin," Speaker Craddick said. "For a number of years I have represented the conservative philosophy of our district by advocating for limited government, lower taxes and investments in public and higher education. I would be honored to serve the Permian Basin for another two years in the Texas House."

Speaker Tom Craddick will be running for his 21st session in the legislature, making him one of the longest serving members of the Texas House of Representatives.

He is also the first Republican speaker in Texas in more than 130 years. He is serving his third term as speaker.
