Recap of recent San Antonio Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies

Inductee Jerry King presented honor by Liz Patranella
Hello, Everybody!

Now that a couple of weeks have gone by and the dust has settled, I thought I would take the opportunity to report on the San Antonio Radio Hall of Fame Induction event.

It was a WOW!  For those of you who attended, I think you will agree.  For those of you who missed it, you definitely missed something special.

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who contributed their time and talents to make the event a success.  Thanks to my fellow Selection Committee members … Mark Carrillo, Bruce Hathaway, Paul Kirby & Chrissie Murnin for their time and careful consideration of the nominees.

To Mark Carrillo, who got us the big room at the Beethoven Halle (for free!), who recorded the voice overs for all the Inductees’ bios for the slide presentation, and who supported me throughout the long and detailed process of putting the event together.

To Hector Reyes, who brought his sound system, set it all up, and calmly made all the equipment work when I was in a panic!

To Tom Bray, who jumped in and moved the mikes and ran the audio system during the presentation.

To Chrissie Murnin who donated money needed for the Induction Certificates.

To Steve Dietrick who brought food then took charge of the food setup and arranged a delightful buffet.

To Johnny Shannon, Mike Collie, Sally Yates, Tom Bray, Herb Carl, Albert Calvo and anyone else who supplied food and drinks.

To Alex Alvarez and his wife who helped set up the name badge table and helped Steve with the food.

To Steve Walker, who showed up with his camera and became our official event photographer.

To my husband, Francis, and everyone who helped him set up and take down all the tables and chairs in the room. And to anyone else who pitched in and did anything to help out that day!

The time that people got to spend together, reminiscing, taking photos and meeting their heroes, was very special to watch and to be a part of. The food was good and thanks to our generous volunteers, there was more than enough. The beer was cheap…where can you get $2 longnecks these days?

The presentations went off without a hitch and there were lots of magical moments. Ricci Ware (who had 14 members of his family in attendance) saying this meant more to him than his Texas Radio Hall of Fame induction. Bob Sinclair accepting his induction with the help of his radio sidekick, Sagamore Subsoil (a voice we haven’t heard since 1968). And there were so many others.

The room was perfect for our needs and we can’t thank the folks at the Beethoven Halle enough for all they do for us. I hope we can go back there again next year. I am looking forward to this being an annual event.

Very soon we will be updating the Hall of Fame website, so keep watching for that. And I will see you all at our fall luncheon, to be announced soon!
