Red Light Camera installation in Balcones Heights will be completed by the end of the week

The much anticipated completion of the installation of the controversial Red Light Cameras in Balcones Heights is here. According to Justin McDole, the engineer from Houston overseeing the installation, "February 22nd (Thursday) is the date the cameras should be totally functional."

He points out that although the cameras will be functional, a 30-day grace period will be in place to allow time for an educational awareness program to educate the public and warn them that running a red light will cost them $148 fine.

According to Texas State Law, if any part of the vehicle enters the intersection while the light is still yellow, it is permissible to continue driving at the drivers own risk. If the vehicle enters the intersection after the light turns red, the driver will be issued a citation for running a red light.

The citation that American Traffic Solutions sends to the violator in the mail will also include a photo of the license plates of the vehicle and instructions on how to pay the fine.

Red Light Cameras are installed at Hillcrest & Babcock, Fredericksburg Road & Hillcrest, Fredericksburg Road & Crossroads Boulevard & Fredericksburg Road & Balcones Heights Boulevard.
