Former Balcones Heights Councilman Steve Walker is officially a candidate for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2. He will face a Republican incumbent in the 2008 November election.
Walker filed at the Bexar County Democratic Party, Thursday, December 6th, shortly after State Senator Leticia van de Putte filed her paperwork for re-election. Van de Putte is on record as a supporter of the former 4-term Councilman from Balcones Heights.
As a retired teacher, Walker stresses his experience with the truancy issue which is nearly 40 percent of the traffic in the Justice of the Peace Court in Leon Valley. He points out, "JPs deal with much more than just truancy, but it is a major problem that needs to be addressed in a serious manner. I spent my whole life working with students encouraging them to finish school. The drop out rate is totally unacceptable and statistics bear that out. It is time to stop the hemmoraging! I want to continue to make a difference in young people's lives."

I would like to know how you differ from the current JP2 office holder in dealing with the truancy and class C misdemeanor cases you would preside over.
