Councilman Cortez misses MPO meeting for active duty
Councilman Philip Cortez, (photo) a member of the MPO Board was one of two elected officials who did not attend the Monday, December 3rd five hour marathon meeting that culminated in a 12-4 vote to approve monies for the controversial toll roads on 281.
Cortez was unable to attend the meeting due to a two week military commitment that will end December 19th. Cortez is an Air Force Reserve 2nd Lieutentant stationed at Lackand Air Force Base.
Editor's Note: As a 30-year veteran of the Army Reserve, I can attest, as most Reservists, that it is not unusual for a Reservist to be required to pull more active duty than just one two week stint yearly. Ask State Rep. Rick Noriega running for Senate and local State Rep. Frank Corte about their activation and recent stints in the Middle East.
