Berriozabal receives Innovations in Education Award

Manuel Berriozabal (photo) is the recipient of an Innovations in Education Award by the University of Texas.

According to John Stuart, Chairman of the University's Chancellor's Council Executive Committee speaking on behalf of Chancellor Mark G. Yudof in a letter to Berriozabal, stated that Berriozabal is the recipient of its first annual Innovations in Education Awards.

"Because of the great significance of innovative programs in higher education, The University of Texas System recently inaugurated its first annual Innovations in Education Awards. We are delighted to tell you that your extraordinary work in creating the Texas Pre-freshman Engineering Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio has been selected to receive one of the very first of these awards, which includes a $5,000 stipend."

"To win one of these new awards is a remarkable achievement. After members of the campus community suggested nominees for the award, each academic institution's president selected only one program to represent the University. A committee of scholars evaluated these nominations based on several criteria, selecting only three award winners across the UT System."

Stuart continues "We hope you will receive your award in person at our May 4 Annual Meeting of the Chancellor's Council in Austin The meeting brings together more than 500 of the UT System's most committed financial supporters. It is through the generosity of the Chancellor's Council that the Innovations Awards are funded."

UTSA President Ricardo Romo invited Berriozabal to attend the UTSA Faculty Honors Convocation where he and the UTSA Provost will be presenting an award to Manuel celebrating his accomplishment.

The Convocation is Thursday, May 3rd at 2 p. m. at the 1604 Campus in the Liu Auditorium BB 2.0l.02. Should anyone wish to attend please call Giselle Diaz at 458-4129 by May lst or leave a message at 458-5140. Those wishing to congratulate Manny can email him at manuel.berriozabal@utsa.edu
