Fiesta Store marks 50th Anniversary of Fiesta Commission

The Fiesta® Store, the one-stop source for official Fiesta merchandise, is offering several special items to mark the 50th anniversary of the Fiesta® San Antonio Commission this year.

The commission is the nonprofit organization that has been coordinating the Alamo City ’s biggest festival since 1959. Fiesta itself has been around since 1891.

Anniversary items include a special medal with the crest of the Fiesta San Jacinto Association (pictured). That’s the group that preceded the Fiesta Commission. Also available are a limited-edition cloisonné ornament (only 50 were ordered) and a 50th anniversary lapel pin.

The store, at 2611 Broadway, has other new, affordable merchandise for sale starting Thursday at 10 a.m. Look for:

● A colorful tote bag design with “Fiesta” spelled out in rhinestones.
● A cloisonné bell ornament that echoes part of the Fiesta 2009 poster.
● T-shirts featuring “Viva Fiesta” and a crown in rhinestones
Popular traditional items include the Fiesta 2009 poster, poster t-shirts, the Fiesta 2009 poster pin and medal, lots of other Fiesta medals, and Fiesta wreaths and other items made by volunteers.

The Fiesta Store is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The best time to shop at the store is now through March 27, said Fiesta Commission President Charles Barrett. There are no lines, and the shelves are fully stocked.
