We have plans for 2009!
Based on the growth in the last 2 years and with the opening of the Haven for Hope campus in the Summer of 2009, this promises to be an exciting year for Dress for Success San Antonio.
2008 was eventful in many ways.
1. We moved from Crossroads to our downtown location at 520 N. Medina, closer to most of our clients
2. We increased the number of first time clients by more than 71% (to 631)
3. We increased the number of second suitings--suitings for clients who are working-- by 91% (to 153)
4. We opened our Career Center on October 27, 2009, and served 34 clients before the end of the year.
5. We are rolling out other new client services, a few of which are described later in this newsletter
In 2009 we anticipate serving 100 new participants per month as a result of the additional economic challenges of the disenfranchised population. We hope to help each one find work.
2009 will see the launch of our first ever Annual Campaign. Please be generous when your invitation to participate arrives.
We are excited to announce a partnership with ARMA that will be known as "Pearls for a Purpose". Volunteers will be making 600 strands of pearls and earrings for first suiting clients. Pearls are the signature jewelry of Dress for Success, as they finish the professional interview suiting look perfectly. Volunteers will be needed to assist with this project. DFS San Antonio participants are encouraged to help so that they can learn the art of beading as well.
In addition, we will be launching our DFS 101 Open Houses once a month on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Please RSVP as space is limited. Our Open House is designed to teach the community leaders and individuals interested in learning first hand how Dress for Success San Antonio is changing the economic horizon for low-income children and families in San Antonio.
Our first Open House will be on Thursday, February 19th, at 8:30 a.m. at the agency at 530 N. Medina. Please RSVP to denise@dfssa.org.
