Wednesday, January 2nd, attorney Brent de la Paz filed his candidacy for Bexar County Democratic Party Chair. The filing comes after de la Paz embarked on a listening tour of precinct chairs, elected officials, and community leaders concerned about a lack of unity in the party.

“I have heard the pleas of party activists who tell me that we could be so much more effective if we had organized leadership. We must be unified in our goals and be more accountable. Today I stand ready to offer Democrats a fresh start and a path toward effectiveness,” exclaimed de la Paz

Brent De la Paz, continued saying, “Let’s close the book on the party factions and begin living up to our potential. Let us bring about the type of change that will allow our candidates, precinct chairs and elected officials the resources they need to run a coordinated campaign like the one run in Dallas.”

Brent De la Paz promises to run a positive upbeat campaign focused on a contest of ideas, rather than personality politics and personal allegiances.

“I am not running to support any particular faction. I am not running because of any one individual. I am running for the sole purpose of unifying and strengthening the party. I am running because our county needs the people to rise up and vote Democratic now more than ever,” declared de la Paz whose family also owns S & B Printing--a union print shop that helped get the message out for numerous Democratic candidates across Texas.

Brent de la Paz’s Democratic Party activism began with his grandfather, Santos de la Paz, as he grew up working in the family business of a union print shop that has served to elect Democratic Party officials since 1936. Santos de la Paz was a printer, publisher and editor for La Verdad, a weekly newspaper. And he was also a Democratic precinct chairman for over 35 years.

Brent de la Paz graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio and attended South Texas School of Law. He is married with one child and has been active in numerous community organizations
