San Antonio Lawyer to take a run at ousting Senator John Cornyn in 08
Mike Watts, a local plaintiffs' lawyer is quietly moving around the state seeking support in his bid to challenge incumbent Republican Senator John Cornyn in the 2008 election.
Watts made his fortune persuading juries and now must convince Texas Democrats that he is the candidate to turn the tide of two decades of no Democratic Senator in Texas.
Watts has used nearly $4 million of his own money to launch his Senate exploratory committee, instantly matching Mr. Cornyn's campaign treasury. He also has a fledging campaign staff headed by veteran Campaign Manager, Christian Archer.
Archer's most recent success was coordinating two successful campaigns for San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger.
