Truancy costs local school districts millions of dollars

Students who register for class but don't attend regularly cost school districts millions of dollars a year.

And truancy is a problem all parents need to remain keenly aware of as the 2008-2009 school year gears up.

That is especially true for parents of pre-schoolers and kindergarteners. While attendance is not compulsory until age 6, those younger than that are required to comply with daily attendance regulations if they are enrolled in public schools.
