Members of the UTSA Alumni Association, a 501 c 3 organization, will meet on Thursday, March 27th at 5:30 p.m. at La Fonda Restaurant on Main Avenue to register voters, recognize Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, and educate UTSA friends and supporters about four propositions under consideration in the upcoming Bexar County special election to extend the visitor tax.

On May 10, citizens will vote to extend the existing hotel-motel taxes and car rental taxes to pay for San Antonio River improvements, amateur sports facilities, cultural arts facilities and improvements to the community arenas, grounds and facilities.

If Proposition 2 is approved by voters, UTSA would receive part of $80 million in car rental taxes allocated for 13 amateur sports facilities throughout the county. UTSA would use the funding to support a new athletics complex.

“This athletics complex is an important component in the growth of the UTSA athletics program and the university in general,” said Rob Killen ’97, chair of the UTSA Alumni Association’s community relations committee. “The amount allocated to UTSA would be $15 million.”
The event is free and open to the public.
