Burn ban is still in effect despite recent rain

Bexar County Fire Marshal Orlando Hernandez would like to remind Bexar County residents that the burn ban approved by Commissioners Court on Feb. 26 has not been lifted even though the area has received rain recently.

“The strong winds will dry out any moisture in the ground from the one day of rain we experienced,” Hernandez said. “The dry conditions, low humidity and strong winds will create more fire dangers.”

Residents are reminded that outdoor burning is restricted at least until the end of May. The ban prohibits outdoor burning unless it is authorized by the County Fire Marshal. Other exceptions to the ban include burning for firefighting training; public utility, natural gas pipeline or mining operations; and harvesting of agricultural crops. Household trash can be burned in burn barrels that have wire mesh screens.

Residents found in violation of the ban will be issued a citation.
