Express-News endorses Sakai for District Judge

Judicial candidate for the 225th District Court

The Express-News endorses Peter Sakai for the 225th District Court. The recommendation reads as follows:

The race for Bexar County's only district court bench is drawing the most attention of any local judicial contest. Distrcit Judge John Specia did not seek re-electio to the 225th District bench, and we recommend Democrat Peter Sakai for the post.

Sakai has devoted most of his 26 year legal career to handling the county's most emotionally challenging cases. He served as an associate judge for 11 years, an appointee of the county's district judges. He gave up that job to seek election.

Sakai has paid his dues working the trenches. Much of Sakai's work as a chidren's court judge was done quietly. The court's work was recognized only after a series of high-profile cases involving the deaths of young children.

He established a stellar record as a hardworking judge with compassion for the familes and children who appear before him. A former prosecutor and municipal court judge, Sakai spend six years as an appointed court master handling juvenile cases before being appointed as associate judge.

Sakai would be an outstanding addition to Bexar County's elected judiciary.
