Governor receives "Pathfinder" Award from SA Chamber

Gov. Rick Perry Receives “Pathfinder” Award from San Antonio Chamber of Commerce

San Antonio – Gov. Rick Perry today received the inaugural "Pathfinder" award from the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce for his ongoing efforts to grow the Texas economy and create jobs.

"There is simply no better place to live, work, grow a business and raise a family than the great State of Texas," said Gov. Perry. "We have the best business climate in the country and remain globally competitive thanks to our reasonable regulations, low taxes, fair legal environment, educated workforce and an unparalleled quality of life."

Gov. Perry also addressed recent announcements by AT&T to relocate its corporate headquarters from San Antonio to Dallas, and Toyota’s decision to idle its truck manufacturing plant located in San Antonio for a few months.

"The rich and diverse economy of San Antonio was not built on any one single company nor will this town’s economy be toppled by tough decisions that one or two companies had to make," Gov. Perry said. "Make no mistake that San Antonio is a bona fide economic player with the diversity and strength to endure any setback."

Overall, the Texas economy continues to grow at nearly three times the national average. Yesterday, CNBC named Texas as America’s Top State for Business and overall best economy. Texas was also recently recognized by CEO magazine as the Best State to do Business for the third year in a row and is home to more fortune 500 companies then any other state in the nation. Last year, more than half of all new jobs created in the United States were created in Texas.

"We live in a world that moves faster than at any time in history," Gov. Perry said. "Knowledge and capital are rapidly being deployed to parts of the world where the right combination of talent, technology, business climate, infrastructure and markets converge. I believe Texas is that place, now more than ever."
