Bus Rapid Transit hosted by VIA Metropolitan Transit

From Councilman Justin Rodriguez (photo)

Dear Friends,

I hope your summer has been enjoyable thus far. While the Council recess continues through the month of July, my staff and I have been busy preparing for the budget season. Over the past few weeks, we have been hitting the streets doing outreach in select neighborhoods - soliciting your input for priorities in 2009.

Although we will hit several thousand households by the end of the month, it will be impossible for us to touch every door in the district. Please continue to provide your input either by calling (210) 733-7525 or emailing district7@sanantonio.gov.

Next week, VIA Metropolitan Transit will be hosting a series of community forums on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project being implemented along the Fredericksburg Road corridor. This is an important project and a step in the right direction for our transportation infrastructure.

It also is a major environmental advancement as the BRT line will function with hybrid/electric engines. The meetings are July 28 at the Woodlawn Theater and July 30 at the Norris Conference Center at Crossroads Mall. See below for additional details.

Lastly, let me thank those of you who have called or emailed with your thoughts and concerns about the development near and around Camp Bullis. I would like to assure you that city officials are working with the development community and Camp Bullis representatives to create safeguards to ensure future development does not impede the Army's training mission at Camp Bullis.

Mayor Phil Hardberger will be visiting the site this week, and I will be making my own visit to Camp Bullis in the coming days. I cannot emphasize enough that we are fully committed to Ft. Sam Houston, the U.S. Army and the integral role that Camp Bullis plays in training our service men and women.

Warmest Regards,

Councilman Justin Rodriguez
