Students Committed to Change will be hosting students from Fox Tech High School on Friday, 11 April 2008, from 10am to 1:30pm, on the campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio. The students will be participating in the SCC created Advancing Student Knowledge (ASK) program, which was designed to act as a high school to college transition crash course.

As a part of this program, the high school students (all seniors) will be given information on how to steer the admissions process, filling out financial aid applications, the difference in financial aid (Plus loans vs. Stafford loans), tours of both campuses, etc... Also, we have prep information for seniors awaiting the SAT/ACT exams and offer information for parents with concerns/questions about the college experience.

Members of Students Committed to Change will also address the students, relating their experiences about the transition from high school to college. The ASK program was created to assist minority high school students achieve their goal of going to college.

“Many of these students come from underrepresented areas of town and may never take part in the college experience. We have become role models for these students and wanted a chance to include them in what we do as an organization. In a way, this has allowed us to give back to the community, while potentially recruiting students for UTSA”, said Margaret Richardson, chair for Students Committed to Change.

Under the ASK program, Students Committed to Change has hosted over one hundred students (all seniors) from Sam Houston and Fox Tech High Schools. In partnership with P-20 Initiatives, this program has been highly successful and Students Committed to Change looks forward to hosting college bound students in the future.
