Attorney to sue Balcones Heights over Red Light Cameras

Local attorney Mark Cevallos has filed a lawsuit against the City of Balcones Heights on what he perceives as a "violation of due process" in relation to a Red-Light Camera violation he received in the mail demanding payment of the citation to American Traffic Solutions. ATS is the vendor from Scotsdale, Arizona who installed the cameras. ATS is paid $40 per citation once they collect the fine.The City receives $35 and then must split the revenue with the state.

Former Balcones Heights Councilman Steve Walker who was the lone dissenting vote against the installation of the cameras and voted against the ordinance allowing Red Light Cameras in the city in 2006 says, "From what little I know about the alleged lawsuit, it appears that Mr. Cevallos is saying exactly what I maintained back when we voted to allow the cameras."
