The Guadalupe announces line-up for 28th Tejano Fest

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center’s Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio will celebrate its 28th incarnation from May 5th to 9th at the historic Guadalupe Theatre, 1301 Guadalupe St. at S. Brazos, and the nearby Rosedale Park, 342 Dartmouth, in San Antonio, Texas.

Highlights of the festival include star-studded performances by Conjunto Music Hall of Famers Mingo Saldivar, Ruben Vela, Esteban Jordan, Oscar Hernandez, Los Dos Gilbertos, and sixteen other musical acts, as well as accordion and bajo sexto workshops.

These workshops will be offered from Thursday, May 7th through Saturday, May 9th at the Guadalupe Theatre. Accordion workshops will be taught by conjunto accordion great, Oscar Hernandez. He will also teach a workshop in Accordion Maintenance, Tuning and Repair. Bajo sexto will be taught by legendary musician and bajista, Jesus “Chucho” Perales.

Workshop prices range from $35 per session or $50 per day (two sessions). Ticket prices for the three-day musical showcase at Rosedale Park are $12 to $15 per day. Pre-sale three-day passes are $25 for GCAC members, $30 for non-GCAC members; on-site three-day passes are $30 for GCAC members, $35 for non-GCAC members.

Other highlights of the 28th Tejano Conjunto Festival include a Seniors Conjunto Dance; inductions into the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame; a CD Release Party at the Guadalupe Theater for The Best of the 8th and 27th Tejano Conjunto Festivals (recorded live at the 1989 and 2008 festivals respectively); and three days and over 20 of the very best bands in Conjunto music at Rosedale Park that includes a special Tribute to Esteban Jordan, one of the all-time great accordionists in the history of Conjunto music; plus food and beverage booths, accordion raffle, student recital and more.
