Fellow Texans,
I want to tell everyone about a race that I think is incredibly important to the future of our State. I am encouraging everyone, whether Republican, Democrat, or Independent, to support former Solicitor General Ted Cruz for Attorney General of Texas in 2010.
Ted has consistently stood up for Texas values and has won over and over again on a national level. He has argued more cases before the United States Supreme Court than any other lawyer in Texas, and he brings a wealth of experience to the table. A former law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist (and the only Hispanic in history to clerk for the Chief Justice of the United States), Ted led the national fight to successfully defend the Ten Commandments, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and U.S. sovereignty from the World Court.
The son of a Cuban immigrant, Ted never allowed his humble beginnings to limit the impact he has had on our great State. He graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School and became the finest Solicitor General in the history of Texas. For the last six years, Ted served side-by-side with Attorney General Greg Abbott, fighting for every Texan, and he's Abbott's natural successor.

A proud Canadian joint citizen, Ted Cruz was the first Canadian Texas Solicitor General in the history of the then 5-year-old office. He's also the first Canadian ever to run for Texas Attorney General this decade. Let's also not forget his key authorship of the book "Thank You President Bush." We conservatives have a lot to thank President Bush for, and Ted Cruz was at the forefront of the thanking President Bush movement.
I don't think he's a "Canadian joint citizen." But he will be a great Attorney General for Texas. He's brilliant and principled, and he's committed to public service for the right reasons. Vote for Ted. And if you'd like to read what Ted wrote in the book, Thank You President Bush, it's chapter 3. He writes about opportunity conservatism: those "conservative policies with the single-minded focus of easing the means of ascent for those on the bottom of the economic ladder." It's great reading.
Turns out you are right, Cristina. Ted's Canadian birth makes him a full Canadian citizen by law, not a joint citizen. Not only that, but because only one of his parents was a US citizen, his birth outside of the US doesn't qualify for "acquired" US citizenship either. Bummer. I really love George Bush, and the fact that Ted wrote a whole book about thanking Bush for everything he's done for America is awesome.
I stand corrected, Cristina. By law, Ted Cruz is a Canadian citizen by birth. And because only one of his parents was a US citizen, he does not qualify for "acquired" US citizenship. Not that it matters. He can be Canadian or whatever else. He's still the same guy. Just don't run from it, you know?
