San Antonio, Texas— Former State District Judge, former Bexar County Republican Chairman, and 1986 Republican Nominee for Texas Attorney General, Roy Barrera Jr., has joined Quico Canseco’s growing list of prominent supporters in his race for the United States Congress.

Canseco is running to challenge Democrat incumbent Ciro Rodriguez in the 23rd District of Texas which includes portions of Bexar and 19 other South and West Texas Counties.“It is a great honor to have such an accomplished and well respected leader like Roy Barrera on my campaign team,” said Canseco.

“Roy ’s political experience at the local, state and national levels will be an enormous asset to our campaign. As we work to retake the 23rd Congressional District I will be seeking his advice and counsel often,” noted Mr. Canseco.“Few people know the needs of South Texas as well as Roy and I cannot stress enough how important his endorsement is to my efforts to bring practical, results based representation to the 23rd District.

He posses a knowledge of the dynamics of Texas politics that few can match,” Canseco added.According to Mr. Barrera, “Quico Canseco is a strong conservative leader who will put the needs of South Texas above petty politics. The last thing we need in Congress is another career politician. Clearly Quico has the real life experiences with business and family that make him an ideal candidate to win back the 23rd for our party.”

Barrera said that he was excited to join the growing ranks of Republican leaders from South Texas and beyond who are supporting Canseco’s campaign for congress.“The 23rd District of Texas provides Republicans with one of our best opportunities to win back a seat in the United States Congress, but only if we choose the strongest Republican candidate to be our nominee,” said Barrera. “Quico is that Republican candidate and I urge my fellow Republicans to join me in supporting his campaign.

Roy Barrera Jr. joins the likes of San Antonio business and community leader Red McCombs, former State Reps Ken Mercer and John Shields, and Bexar County business leaders Jim Gorman, J.R. Hurd, Marshall Steves, Roy Terracina and Ted Terrazas as members of Canseco’s South Texas Leadership Committee which provide advice, guidance, and counsel to the candidate and his campaign team.
