4-part Concert Showcase of San Antonio Artists Sunday,
April 6th from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., 5 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.
Norris Conference Center, Crossroads Mall
The L.G.S.M. Foundation, Inc., invites you to a unique concert of solo and ensemble piano music performed by up to 20 people at a time, with ages ranging from first grade through adult, and in which even the children will give a polished performance.
What makes this concert unusual is that more than a hundred paintings, including works by San Antonio's top artists, will be presented on a projection screen while the music is being performed. The art works will provide a visual accompaniment to the music, while at the same time the music offers a commentary to the visual art.
The same paintings will be displayed in a gallery in the concert room for an up-close view, and after each of the four concert sessions, there will be plenty of opportunity for interaction between the artists, musicians, and the audience.
To our knowledge, such a concert has never been done before. The music will represent a wide variety of styles and moods, from sentimental to passionate to grandiose. Some artists will offer their paintings for sale. The concert will take place in the Norris Conference Center at Crossroads Mall on Sunday, April 6th, with the four concert sessions, each of them different, beginning at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.
The 5 p.m. session will feature art and music students and faculty of Northwest Vista College, and will focus on the theme of global warming and our fragile planet. Due to videotaping, we respectfully ask that children under age ten (except for those performing) not be brought to the concert. This concert is hosted by the L.G.S.M. Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides assistance to children with disabilities in their study of music and the arts. There is no admission charge; however, audience members are requested to make a tax-deductible contribution to the L.G.S.M. Foundation, and the full amount of these contributions will be awarded to children with disabilities; not one penny of the contributions will be used to pay for the concert!
The L.G.S.M. Foundation, Inc., is named in memory of Lillian Gertrude Sims McRitchie, who taught a child with disabilities for eleven years at no charge, inspiring her to become a concert artist.
