Texas Event Features New Media Gurus

Bloggers and citizen journalists from across Texas will converge in Austin on Friday, July 2nd, to learn from some of the leaders in online media how to build conservative influence on the Internet at the Texas Defending the American Dream Summit.

The Summit happens July 2nd and 3rd at the Renaissance Austin Hotel , 9721 Arboretum Blvd. Austin , TX .

“Americans realize that the information battle has unfairly tipped in favor of the liberal message,” said AFPF State Director Peggy Venable. “They know they must look to online resources to find a balance. New media includes social networking like Facebook, Twitter and blogging. Frankly, it’s not really new media any more. It is becoming mainstream.”

Americans for Prosperity Foundation will provide new media training through its RightOnline track at the Summit . Several notable figures in online media will lead the breakout sessions, including Matt Lewis of Politics Daily; Steven Crowder of PJTV; Dan Gainor, of the Media Research Center ; Trent Siebert of Texas Watchdog; Andrew Kerr and Raz Shafer of American Majority, and more.

Attendees will learn how to use blogs, social networking websites, online videos and more to educate citizens on issues, to hold their elected officials accountable and to become effective citizen journalists.

“It is no surprise to see ordinary citizens breaking news on their blogs, Twitter feeds and Facebook pages with mainstream journalists hard on their heels,” Venable said. “In fact, we see time and again where the news media relies on the good work of bloggers for stories on government corruption and injustice, and it’s all thanks to the free flow of information on the Internet. We are also seeing mainstream media using the Internet to get news out more rapidly. The media is evolving and our Summit will provide a roadmap.”
