Texas Democratic Party State Convention slated for Austin

Boyd Richie (photo)
Texas Democratic Party chair

Dear fellow Democrat,

The excitement about this year's TDP State Convention is like nothing Texas has ever seen. Over 15,000 Delegates, Alternates and Guests from all over the Lone Star State are expected to attend this historic event. In order to ensure that as many Democrats as possible are able to participate in the Convention, the TDP will make guest passes available to the general public through a random drawing.

Note that a guest pass does not make you a delegate or alternate, but simply entitles you to observe the Convention on the date for which you receive a credential. We will make every effort to accommodate each request for guest passes, but due to the high level of excitement around this year's convention, we cannot guarantee that you will receive a guest pass. Names for the drawing will be accepted through Friday, May 23rd at 6 p.m. & the TDP staff will contact winners on Tuesday, May 27th.

Click here to enter your name in for the guest pass drawing.

Delegates, Alternates, and members of the public who attend the State Convention will be part of an event like no other, and I am delighted to announce that I have recommended Senator Kirk Watson of Austin, an Obama supporter, and Senator Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio, a Clinton supporter, to serve as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Convention. Excitement will be high at the Convention, but with these two distinguished legislators in charge, I know we can count on a fair and successful process.

Keep in mind that you can still be part of the Convention excitement by attending the Convention Kick Off Reception on June 5th or the Blue Star Breakfast on June 7th. These events are open to the public, but tickets are going very fast. These events will both sell out soon, so this may be your last chance to purchase a ticket. Click here for tickets to the Kick Off Reception, or click here for tickets to the Blue Star Breakfast.

I could not be more excited about the upcoming Convention. I hope that you will be able to join us as we make history in Austin this June.

Your friend and fellow Democrat,
Boyd L. Richie
Texas Democratic Party Chair

HTA of Bexar County says "No!" to Tourist Tax Grab

Tourist Tax Grab

Tax and spend politicians and special interests consider tourists easy targets for tax hikes. Why? They can’t vote here!

The political action committee for higher taxes is spending $1 million to convince us that forcing tourists to pay more is necessary to be a “world class” city.

Should the tax hike pass, our tourist will pay the fourth highest taxes in the nation. This will leave tourists, who can still afford to visit San Antonio , with less money to spend.

$125 million for River Improvements

Former Mayor Howard Peak proposed a sales tax increase to pay for river improvements. It was soundly defeated by voters who believed the developers whom owned the land along the river should pay since they would get the profits.
$100 million for Rodeo & Community Arenas

Seventy five of the $100 million will go to the Spurs AT&T Center for future unknown improvements. Notably, the Spurs have already contributed $375 thousand to the PAC pushing for passage but are never mentioned in the campaign for the tax hike.

$110 million for Arts Centers

Most of the money will go to the Municipal Auditorium which currently seats about 5,000 people. It will seat less than 2,000 after the “improvements” are completed.

It's time for us to fight back and stop theis tax grab!

Vote NO!
