Dear Fellow Democrat,
At this week's State Democratic Convention, we are fortunate to have a chance to re-elect a State Party Chair who has worked successfully for two years to change the direction of the Texas Democratic Party. We're writing today to ask you to support Boyd Richie for State Democratic Chair.
Between the three of us, we represent Democrats of different races, ethnicities and Presidential preferences, but we all agree that under Boyd Richie's leadership, Democrats are on the rise and we're ready to compete and win everywhere in Texas.
One of us, Senator Gallegos, has supported Senator Clinton in the primary, and Senators Ellis and Whitmire have supported Senator Obama. However, just as we work together for all the people we represent, we are united in our support for Boyd Richie.
The State Chair won't decide the Presidential nomination, but re-electing Boyd Richie has a lot to do with staying on track to unite our party to win here in Texas in 2008 and 2010. Senator Whitmire often says "experience counts," and for Texas Democrats, Boyd Richie's two years as State Chair have been a good experience.
oyd has welcomed new ideas and new technology, and over 2,000 organizers, from presidential campaigns to precinct chairs, use the Party's state of the art on line Voter File to identify and turn our votes. The State Party has earned the respect of donors, adding 1,600 new individual contributors.
We've won back congressional and State House seats and swept Dallas County, and Harris County will be next in 2008. As Senators, we've seen Boyd and our State Party stand up for Voting Rights at the Capitol, in the press, and in the courthouse, where we've won important victories.
And we've seen Boyd reach out to grassroots leaders in our communities and listen to them and treat them with the same respect he shows us. Boyd Richie has earned our support by leading the effort to change our Party and working hard to include everyone in our progress.
Democrats win together, and it's time for us to come together to support Boyd Richie. Please join us as we work to win in 2008.
